There is one task that almost every Australian is afraid to do, and it’s moving from a house. Plenty of us find packing, labelling and throwing away stuff a tedious task. But the truth is that there are some hacks that you can do to make moving easier. If you apply them, you may even find moving an enjoyable task.

  1. Plan ahead
Maybe this sounds a little bit obvious, but a lot of people don’t do it. Planning ahead will be the key to success. Start planning to move about four to six weeks ahead of time. This will ensure that everything is organized and you don’t have to deal with a mad rush on the day. Remember to book the movers as early as possible and start collecting boxes and packing rarely used items as early as possible.

  2. Declutter
Moving house is a great opportunity to declutter and throw away, recycle or donate stuff you don’t need anymore. It also means there will be less to pack, carry and unpack at the other end.

If you want to get rid of clothes, books or other things that are still in a good state, then don’t throw them away. In this case, donating or asking friends if they would want to have them would be better. Remember that some people's trash is other people's treasure, and they can give a second use to your unwanted items.

  3. Use quality boxes
Try to use moving boxes that are in good condition because there’s nothing worse than having a box break when moving. That will make you lose time and you’ll be really mad about all your effort thrown away. So, keep in mind to have boxes in a good state and have at least two different sizes of them.

If you want to use worn boxes, then make sure to use enough tape to secure them. That way, you’ll be ensuring that they will not open suddenly.

  4. Organize things
Yes, you need to organize your stuff by weight and size. For example, you can put all the small items that you have in your room in a box and label them. Unpacking will be easier that way, and you'll ensure that nothing gets lost. If you start mixing things from different rooms in one box, then you’ll be cooking a disaster.

Packing things together by weight will also be a good thing to do. That way, you can put heavy boxes first, and then keep adding lighter boxes on top of them. This will keep your stuff safe, and you’ll have nothing to fear when moving.

  5. Valuables
Keeping your valuables where you exactly know will be safe is important. It will be a nightmare to start looking for them like crazy in a sea of boxes. The clever thing to do for keeping them safe is to keep them with you.

For instance, you can put all your important documents (birth certificates, passport, etc.) in a backpack. And you should keep it with you while moving to avoid losing important stuff.

  6. Label your boxes
We have been repeating this throughout the article because it’ll make a difference. Maybe you think that you’ll recognize where you put your clothes because of the box. But this is a big lie that all the newbies are going to tell themselves.

Put in every label to which room the box belongs to and what it has inside. With this, you can put all the boxes together in their room to make a fast unpacking.

  7. Hire professional cleaners
Imagine that you have done all the hard work of packing everything, but you still need to do the house cleaning. This will leave you exhausted and fed up with everything. The best thing would be to hire professional cleaners. They will know how to do it faster, better and will have the right equipment.

You can have an end-of-lease cleaning without having to worry about it. Hiring professionals in this field will save you a lot of time and effort.
We know that moving is hard and can be a task that will leave you tired. But remember that you’re entering a new chapter of your life. So, try to enjoy it to the fullest and bring that positive energy to your new home. Every new beginning opens plenty of new doors.
